Krater
KRATER is an electronic music Project based on the construction of sound landscapes from the Canary Islands. It is the result of interpreting the surroundings completely separated from any stereotype or sign of identity which might be typical from the Canaries, thus providing a new vision of traditional elements through a visual format.
This project pretends to manipulate everyday sounds and adapt them to a new musical entourage open to the experimentation and evolution of different electronic music styles without focusing completely on any specific one. KRATER is integrated by Luis Ortiz, Raúl González and Cristóbal Montes de Oca as musicians. Amanda López is the artist in charge of transmitting the KRATER concept through visuals, developing a process similar to audio but with images from the Canary Islands.
The first year of work between Barcelona and Berlin has helped them to complete their fist album, called “Harmonic Tremor”, and it was edited by the Klitekture label, a sonic and bizarre trip where IDM, electronic minimal and Postrock influences can be felt.
Harmonic Tremor
Harmonic Tremor defines with concrete coordinates its own intention: a search for harmony from abstraction and tension. It is a work open to musical eclecticism from a vast perspective in which analogical and digital reach a perfect understanding. It has a special ability to lead the listener from suspense to the most absolute calm, evoking real or imaginary landscapes with enormous ability. It is a succession of extremely detailed layers, always with an extremely strong emotional load, able to lead us into introspection. The moments of silence and sound void are fundamental for the understanding of the continuous internal and emotional transformation of the work. KRATER music draws a thin line between harmony and shivering.
LOD
Luis Ortiz was born in Las Palmas at Gran Canaria in 1974. He Works as a musician since 1999. He has lived during more than 18 years in different international cities like Dublin, London, Boston, Los Angeles, Barcelona and Berlin and recently returned to the Canary Islands, his native land from where he conducts his different artistic projects which have the main characteristic to look for new sonorities and structures, keeping the listener in a continuous state of alert, full of expectations on what will next happen.
He started klitecture, the recording label, in 1999, centered on minimal art sound, having artists as Sutekh, Mikael Stavostrand, Frank Bretchneider, Thomas Brinkman, Mapstation, Krikor, Deadbeat, Johan Skugge, Tomas Jirku, Tonne, Pep Gaya, Andreas Tilliander, and LOD himself, intent on creating clicky music for minimal minds under a rather conceptual format, sustained by a 4x4 and ornamented with all type of clicks, crackles and glitches. Many of these artists, today, have become electronic music icons with a very unique personal sound.
In 2004 he created the virtual platform Synergy Networks. This netlabel was created in Barcelona based on the synergy theory which states that if two people work separated, the total of their separate works is less than if they had worked together. Synergy networks has more than 100 artists and was nominated the best 2007 seal at Paris Qwartz Awards in Paris, together with other prestigious ones as Touch, Staubgold and Ant-zen.
As a musician, Luis Ortiz was also nominated in 2005 by the Qwartz Awards for his LOD project in two different categories: best song and discovery. A year later he received a new nomination as the best 2006 song, so he was invited to act with its Krater project, at the award delivery ceremony. As LOD, his music has appeared in Japan, Germany, France, Canada, Russia and Spain with good acceptance by specialized critics, like Debug and Groove in Germany, The Wire in England; in Spain, Traxx and Fluido Rosa/Radio 3, etc. He is highly respected by renowned artists such ad Richie Hawtin, Daypak, Jeff Milligan, Ellen Allien, Angel Molina, Joel Mull, etc.
Luis Ortiz has acted in Germanym France, Italy, The United States, Russia, Serbia, Latvia, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Ireland, to mention a few, where he has taken part in the main electronic art events, such as Sonar (Barcelona), Observatori (Valencia), Superdeluxe (Tokyo), Colours Studio (Tokyo, Japan), Electro-Mecánica (Saint Petersburg), Shanti (Moscow), Time Warp (Frankfurt, Germany), Killekill (Berlin, Germany), Qwartz Awards (Paris, France), le lieu unique (Nantes, France), Dispatch (Belgrade, Serbia), Musac (León, Spain).
